A NEW EQUILIBRIUM IN SHIPPING: THE VISION OF THE MARITECH GROUP

maritech CEO

Honoring World Maritime Day 2025, our CEO, Dimitris Sorokas, shares in an in-depth interview with TheTOC news portal. He outlines the company’s vision and strategy as the current challenges in shipping call for collective responsibility while simultaneously opening up significant avenues for innovation and sustainable solutions.

He highlights the MARITECH Green Series, a cutting-edge line that successfully merges technical reliability and cost reduction with crucial marine environmental protection.

Mr. Sorokas also emphasizes that the future belongs to those who combine technical depth with local speed, building partnerships based on trust and technical value to ensure operational continuity in an era of intense change.

Q: The IMO’s theme this year is “Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity.” What does this mean to you?
A: The ocean is the element that connects continents, peoples, and cultures, supporting global trade and life itself. Shipping is a global family—and this reminds us that it is not just an industry; it is a mission with responsibility towards the next generations. Our obligation is to ensure the vessel’s continuity, with less waste and a longer lifespan for the equipment. Our opportunity is to leverage technical innovation to make shipping more reliable, greener, and ready to meet the challenges of the new era.

Q: Maritech started in Greece. How do you balance your Greek identity with your international presence?
A: We operate on a global scale, but with a Greek identity. Greeks are recognized in shipping for their technical consistency, flexibility, and ability to ensure a vessel’s operational continuity even under the most demanding conditions. These are the values we share with our clients and partners everywhere in the world.

Q: Shipping is in a period of intense challenges and is looking for new balances. What is your assessment?
A: Shipping is indeed in a period of challenges, but also collective responsibility. What the market is looking for is not just solutions, but partnerships that promote innovation, build trust, and create continuity. We feel vindicated seeing the growing demand for relationships based on technical value and consistency. We are proceeding with prudence, choosing steps that create a local presence and real value where there is a need. We don’t make premature announcements; however, it is clear that the prospects exist and our responsibility is to leverage them with stability and accountability.

Q: Sustainability and the green transition are now at the heart of shipping. How are you responding?
A: For us, sustainability is not a slogan; it is applied engineering. Better design means less waste, fewer failures, and a longer lifespan for the equipment. This is the core of the MARITECH Green Series: technical solutions that reduce maintenance costs, improve energy efficiency, and protect the marine environment. We work daily to integrate this into both our products and our repair services, so that every intervention leaves a real, measurable result.

Q: And what is your vision for the future of shipping?
A: In the technical sector where we operate, we believe that the future will belong to those who combine technical depth with local speed. We are not talking about mass-market services; we are talking about technical support networks that can expand according to needs, adapt to different conditions, and remain reliable even in times of crisis. At Maritech, we consider it our mission to deliver not just spare parts or repairs, but operational continuity. This means being ready when we are called and continuously investing in solutions that last. The future of shipping requires preparation today—and that is what we focus on daily.
